An internationally acclaimed collaborative and creation-based contemporary ballet company that is a leader and resource in the creation, production and education of contemporary dance in Canada. Bold and innovative, the Company’s distinctive style and approach has made a unique and valuable national contribution to the development of dance.
Ballet BC’s dancers are a group of open-minded and curious artists, each unique for their dynamic movement while sharing an intuitive passion for dance. Ballet BC is committed to its role as a leader in the community through dancer training opportunities, community and audience outreach, and professional development activities.
Under the artistic direction of Emily Molnar, former member of The National Ballet of Canada, Ballet BC and the Ballett Frankfurt, the Company actively fosters collaborations that support artists, choreographers and audiences alike, furthering the boundaries of contemporary dance. We embrace excellence in the practice of contemporary ballet, with its wide diversity of technique and style, honouring its roots and components.
Ballet BC is rooted in the local community – we feel strongly about giving back.
DanceXpress, a Ballet BC initiative since 2015, provides children in Vancouver access to dance and the freedom of self-expression through movement. In partnership with KidSafe Project, Pacific Coast Resource Society, Vancouver Community School Teams and Parent Advisory Councils, DanceXpress offers dance/movement programming to at-risk children and to youth whose access to dance specifically—and arts and culture more broadly—is otherwise limited.
DanceXpress is not about learning steps, a style or technique—it’s about moving, finding rhythm, connecting, listening and learning. Through dance students learn to communicate with each other and their self. Maintaining a strong body-mind connection is fundamental to good health; understanding what the body is communicating is an essential foundation to developing a sense of inner strength and emotional wellness.
